Blinds, shutters & curtains in Dudley

Older cottages and terraces in Sedgley, Gornal and Netherton, newer homes around Coseley. Roman blinds, shutters and curtains, made to fit windows of every size.

Cottage window with a patterned Roman blind

A lot of Dudley’s older homes have smaller windows than you’d find in a modern house. Cottages in Sedgley and Gornal and Victorian terraces around the town and Netherton were built with modest openings, and many now have uPVC replacements set into the original brickwork. Elsewhere, including around Coseley, there are postwar semis and newer estates with standard casements and patio doors. Small windows need a different approach from big modern glazing, because a blind or curtain that’s slightly too heavy or too wide can swamp them. These are the products we tend to recommend, and why.

Roman blinds for cottage windows

The thick walls of an older cottage usually mean a deep recess, and that’s the perfect home for a Roman blind. Fitted inside the recess, it leaves the windowsill free for plants and ornaments and folds up into neat, soft pleats when raised. A patterned or textured fabric adds warmth and character to a small room without the bulk of curtains. Ask for a blackout or thermal lining if it’s going in a bedroom.

Café-style shutters for street-facing rooms

In Dudley’s terraced streets, the front room often sits right on the pavement. Café-style shutters cover only the lower part of the window, so people walking past can’t see in, while daylight still pours through the top. They have a timeless look that suits Victorian brickwork, and they’re far easier to keep clean than traditional nets. If you’d like the option to close the whole window, ask us about full-height and tier-on-tier styles too.

Pleated blinds for small and awkward windows

Landing windows, narrow windows beside a door, and the small panes you sometimes find in older houses that have been altered over the years can be tricky to dress. Pleated blinds fold up into a very slim stack, so they don’t eat into a small window when raised. They come in a good range of fabrics, and their crisp, light look suits rooms where a Roman blind would feel too heavy.

Curtains for colder rooms

Older solid-walled homes can feel chilly in winter. Lined or interlined made-to-measure curtains help reduce heat loss through glass, and they make a room feel cosier the moment you draw them. For smaller windows we’ll often suggest sill-length curtains, which keep the room in proportion and leave radiators beneath the window uncovered.

Newer homes around Coseley and Sedgley

Not every home here is a cottage. Postwar semis and modern estates bring white uPVC windows, often tilt-and-turn. For those, Perfect Fit blinds are a tidy option: each one sits inside its own window frame, needs no screws in the wall, and opens and closes with the window, which makes them ideal for kitchens and bedrooms.

Free measuring across Dudley

We cover DY1 to DY3 and the neighbourhoods around them, including Sedgley, Gornal, Netherton and Coseley. The wider borough also takes in Stourbridge and Halesowen, which have their own pages. With small and older windows, a few millimetres can decide whether a blind sits neatly, so our fitters measure every opening themselves rather than relying on old sizes. Mention any awkward windows when you book and we’ll come prepared with the right samples. Ring or WhatsApp 07902 945533, or ask for a quote online, and we’ll visit on whichever day of the week suits you. The measure and quote are free, with no obligation, and fitting is included in your quote. For ideas beforehand, take a look at our blinds page.

Questions

Dudley: common questions

Do you cover Sedgley, Gornal and Coseley?

Yes. We cover the whole of Dudley, including Sedgley, Upper and Lower Gornal, Netherton and Coseley. Appointments are available 7 days a week, at a time that suits you.

My windows aren't quite square. Can you still fit a blind?

Yes. Windows in older homes are often slightly out of square. We measure each window at several points and make the blind to suit, and if fitting outside the recess will give a neater result, we'll suggest it.

Do you fit blinds in conservatories?

We fit blinds to conservatory side windows and doors, with pleated, vertical and Perfect Fit blinds all working well. We don't supply conservatory roof blinds.
