Vertical blinds hang as a row of upright vanes from a track at the top of the window. Turn them with the chain to angle the light or close off the view, and pull the cord to gather them to one side when you want the glass clear. That simple movement makes them a very practical way to cover a wide window or a door you walk through every day.

If the phrase brings to mind faded office blinds from years ago, it’s worth another look. Today’s fabric vanes come in soft textures and calm, modern colours, and they look as natural in a lounge as they do in a meeting room.

Where vertical blinds work best

Patio and sliding doors

This is where vertical blinds really earn their place. The vanes draw right back, clear of the opening, and you choose which side they gather on so they never block the way out to the garden. We usually fit them above the frame, so the vanes hang clear of the door handles. Bay windows

Vertical blinds handle bays neatly. Rather than one long track, we normally give each face of the bay its own blind. The vanes then hang true on every side, and you can open the section facing the garden while leaving the others closed.

Large and wide windows

A very wide window can be awkward for a single roller blind. A vertical blind covers the whole width on one track and stacks back into a narrow band at the side, so you lose very little of the view when it’s open.

Offices and workplaces

We measure the full span. We measure the opening, check the door handles and how far the doors slide, and help you choose vanes from our samples. There’s nothing to pay for the visit or quote, and no commitment.
Made to your measurements. The track is made to your exact width and every vane to the right drop.
Fitted and checked. We fix the track, hang the vanes, link the bottom chain and make sure everything turns and draws smoothly. Fitting is included in your quote.

Vane material: Fabric vanes in plain, textured and patterned designs, or PVC vanes in smooth and textured finishes.
Stack direction: Vanes can stack on the left or the right, or part in the centre and gather at both sides.
Light control: Light-filtering fabrics for a soft, even glow, or dim-out fabrics for bedrooms and rooms with screens.
Fixing: Top-fixed to the ceiling or inside the recess, or face-fixed to the wall over the window or door.

Do vertical blinds blow about when the door is open?

A breeze will move them, as it would any blind. The chain along the bottom links each vane to its neighbours, which keeps them evenly spaced and stops them twisting. On doors you use a lot, it's easiest to draw the blind fully back.

Can you replace a single broken vane?

If we supplied the blind, we can usually replace individual vanes rather than the whole blind. We don't repair blinds from other companies, but we're happy to quote for a replacement.

Are vertical blinds child-safe?

Yes. Like every blind we fit, they meet BS EN 13120. The control chain is held taut by a tensioner fixed to the wall or frame, so no loose loops hang down.

Will vertical blinds give me privacy at night?

Yes. When the vanes are turned fully closed they overlap slightly, so the window is covered from outside. A dim-out fabric gives the most privacy once the lights are on.
