Because they’re fitted inside, they leave the outside of the window untouched, which suits homes where the original frames are worth keeping.

For a softer look, a Roman blind sits within the recess and folds up into neat pleats. It’s a good choice where curtains would crowd the room, such as a narrow window beside a chimney breast or a bedroom with furniture under the sill.
