A blind that won’t go up or down is surprisingly annoying, especially when there’s nothing wrong with the rest of it. If we supplied your blinds, we can usually put that right. We replace broken chains, worn controls and faulty mechanisms, and we’ll come back to re-hang blinds you’ve taken down to decorate.

Our repair and re-fitting service covers blinds supplied by Big City Blinds. Because we know how they’re made, we can usually tell quickly what’s gone wrong and what it will take to fix it.

What we can help with

Most problems come down to a handful of parts that wear with daily use.

  • Broken or worn chains. A chain that has snapped, slipped off its control or lost its tensioner can be replaced, and we’ll make sure the new one is properly secured.
  • Controls and mechanisms. A blind that drops on its own, won’t stay where you leave it or jams halfway usually has a worn control unit or mechanism. Replacing it gives the blind a new lease of life.
  • Re-hanging and re-fitting. If you’ve taken blinds down to paint, plaster or replace a window board, we’ll put them back up, level and secure. We can also re-fix blinds that have pulled away from the wall.

Blinds from other companies

We only repair blinds that we supplied. We know that’s disappointing if you have a blind from elsewhere that you’re fond of, but every company uses its own parts and mechanisms, and we’d rather be upfront than take on a repair we can’t do properly. It’s worth contacting the company that supplied it first, as they may be able to help.

There are still two ways we can help:

  • If the blind is broken, we can measure up and quote for a made-to-measure replacement. The home measure and quote are free, with no obligation, and fitting is included in your quote. You can request a quote online.
  • If the blind works but needs putting back up, for example after decorating, our fitting-only service is for exactly that. We’ll fit blinds you’ve bought online or from another retailer.

Repair or replace?

A repair makes sense when the blind itself is in good shape and only one part has failed. Replacing it is usually better when the fabric has faded in the sun, the slats are bent or warped, or the blind no longer suits the room. It can also be a chance to upgrade, for instance swapping a chain-operated blind for a cordless one. Our roller blinds page shows the operating options available.

How it works

  1. Tell us what’s wrong. Call or WhatsApp 07902 945533, or use our online form. A photo of the problem is always helpful.
  2. We take a look. We check the blind, explain what’s needed and confirm the cost before any work starts.
  3. Repaired or re-hung. We replace the faulty part or put the blind back up. If a part needs ordering, we’ll confirm timings with you.
  4. Tested before we leave. We make sure the blind raises, lowers and stays in position properly, and we tidy up after ourselves.

A well-made blind should give you years of use, and a timely repair often keeps it going for a good while longer. With 20 years of fitting blinds across Birmingham and the West Midlands, our team will give you a straight answer on whether yours is worth fixing.

Questions

Blind Repairs & Re-fitting: common questions

Anything else you'd like to know? Call or WhatsApp us on 07902 945533.

I'm not sure who supplied my blind. Can you help?

Your original quote, invoice or order confirmation will usually tell you. If you still can't find out, give us a call or send a photo on WhatsApp and we'll do our best to help you work it out.

Can you repair a blind you supplied a long time ago?

Ask us. It depends on the type of blind and the part that has failed. Tell us roughly when it was fitted and send a photo, and we'll let you know whether it can be repaired.

Can you re-fit my blinds after new windows are installed?

If the new frames and recesses are the same size as the old ones, often yes. If the sizes have changed, the blinds may no longer fit properly, and we'll measure up and quote for new ones instead.

What should I do with my blinds while I decorate?

Keep each blind together with its brackets, screws and any control parts, and label which window it came from. That makes it quicker to put everything back exactly where it was.
