Made-to-measure curtains

Voiles & Nets

Sheer voiles and nets that blur the view in from outside while letting daylight through, made to measure for single windows, bays and doors.

White voiles diffusing light in a front room
  • Privacy that keeps the room bright

During the day, a sheer layer makes it much harder to see in from outside, while your room stays full of natural light.

  • Gentler sunlight

Fine, translucent fabric diffuses strong sun, taking the edge off glare without shutting the daylight out.

  • Sized to your window

Made to the exact width and drop we measure, so there are no gaps at the sides and no bunched-up hems.

  • Made for layering

Hang a voile behind curtains, or pair nets with a blind, for privacy by day and a cosier room once the evening draws in.

Voiles and nets solve one of the most common problems we hear about: you want plenty of daylight, but you don’t want everyone walking past to see straight into your front room. A sheer layer at the window blurs the view from outside while still letting the light pour in. It’s a simple fix that suits the terraced streets and ground-floor flats found right across Birmingham, where front windows often sit just a few steps from the pavement.

Like everything we supply, our voiles and nets are made to measure. Sheer fabric looks best when it’s generously full and the hem sits at just the right height. Off-the-shelf panels rarely manage both, especially on bay windows and wide frames.

Voiles, nets or both?

The two are closely related, but they do slightly different jobs.

  • Voiles are soft, floaty sheers that hang like curtains from a pole or track. They can run to the floor or stop at the sill, and you can draw them back when you want a clear view. They’re often hung behind a heavier pair of made-to-measure curtains on a double pole or track.
  • Nets hang inside the recess, close to the glass, on a slim rod. Full-height nets cover the whole pane, while café nets cover just the lower half, keeping your privacy at street level and leaving the top of the window open to the sky.

Some homes use both: café nets in a front bay, with voiles and curtains on the windows of the rooms behind.

The honest bit about privacy

Voiles and nets work because it’s usually brighter outside than in during the day. Once the sun goes down and your lights are on, that reverses, and people can see in again. So most voiles are partnered with curtains or a blind for the evening.

If you’d rather have one product that does both jobs, take a look at our day and night blinds. They have alternating sheer and solid stripes that you can line up for a soft, filtered view or for privacy, all in a single blind.

Where voiles and nets work well

  • Front rooms facing the street, where you want to sit by the window without feeling on show.
  • Bay windows, where a sheer layer keeps the widest window in the room feeling bright and open. Our curtain poles and tracks page explains how we handle the shape.
  • Bedrooms and bathrooms overlooked by houses behind, where you want daylight without being seen.
  • Sunny rooms, where a sheer layer takes the glare off strong afternoon light while leaving the room bright.

How it works

  1. Get in touch. Phone or WhatsApp 07902 945533, or fill in our quote form. We’ll call you back within 24 hours to book a visit at a time that suits you.
  2. We visit with sheers to try. We hold samples up at your window so you can see how much light each one lets through, then measure up and check how the voile will sit alongside any curtains or blinds. It’s free, with no obligation.
  3. Your voiles and nets are made. Each one is cut and finished to your measurements.
  4. Fitted and hung. We fit any rods, poles or tracks needed and hang everything so it falls evenly. Fitting is included in your quote.

Getting the balance right between privacy and light is easier when you can see the fabric at your own window. With 20 years of experience across Birmingham and the West Midlands, our fitters can show you what works on your street, in your room, at the time of day you use it most.

Questions

Voiles & Nets: common questions

Anything else you'd like to know? Call or WhatsApp us on 07902 945533.

Can I still see out through a voile?

Yes. During the day you'll still see out, though the view is softened, a little like looking through a light mist. Closer weaves and patterned nets give more privacy but a hazier view, so we'll bring a few to compare at your window.

Can I add a voile to the curtains I already have?

Usually, yes. A double pole or track carries a voile behind your main curtains, or we can fit a slim rod in the recess. We'll look at your current set-up at the home visit and suggest the neatest option.

Can you fit voiles or nets in a bay window?

Yes. Nets can be hung in sections on rods across each pane, or voiles can run on a track shaped to follow the bay. We'll measure each angle carefully so the fabric sits evenly all the way round.

Are voiles a good alternative to blinds for privacy?

For daytime privacy, they work very well and feel softer than a blind. If you'd like one product that gives privacy by day and covers the window at night, a day and night blind might suit you better, and we'll happily show you both.
