Made-to-measure curtains

Made-to-Measure Curtains

Curtains made to the exact width and drop of your window, in the heading, fabric and lining you choose, from soft pencil pleats to modern wave folds.

Dusky blue velvet curtains in a bedroom
  • Cut for your window, not a standard size

We take the width and drop ourselves, so your curtains hang at the length you want, whether that's brushing the floor or finishing neatly at the sill.

  • Four classic headings

Pencil pleat, eyelet, pinch pleat and wave. Each one hangs differently, from relaxed and gathered to crisp and tailored.

  • Linings that do a job

Standard, blackout and thermal linings give the fabric body, control how much light gets through and can help reduce heat loss through glass.

  • The pole or track, sorted too

We supply and fit the pole or track as well, so heading and hardware are matched and everything draws smoothly.

  • Fabrics to hold up at your window

Our fitters bring fabric samples to your home visit, so you can judge colour, weight and texture next to your own décor.

Curtains do things a blind can’t. They soften the hard lines of a window, bring colour and texture into a room, and on a dark winter evening, drawing them closed makes even a big room feel snug. We make curtains to your exact measurements, in the heading, fabric and lining you choose, then hang them on a pole or track that we supply and fit.

Ready-made curtains come in a handful of set widths and drops, which is why they so often end up a little too short, a little too skimpy, or pooled on the floor when you didn’t want them to be. Made to measure means there’s enough fabric across the width to look full when closed, and the hem lands exactly where it should, whether that’s the floor of a tall Victorian sitting room or just below the sill in a cottage bedroom.

Choosing a heading

The heading is the top of the curtain. It decides how the fabric folds, what it hangs from and how the curtain looks open and closed.

Heading The look Hangs from Works well in
Pencil pleat Neatly gathered and traditional A pole or a track Almost any room, including bays
Eyelet Soft, deep, even folds A pole only Relaxed living spaces and patio doors
Pinch pleat Structured, tailored pleats A pole with rings, or a track Period rooms and heavier fabrics
Wave Smooth, rippling S-shaped folds A track or pole made for wave Modern homes and electric tracks

Wave headings stack back very neatly, which makes them a natural partner for electric curtain tracks. Pencil pleat is the most adaptable, and pinch pleat gives a smart, dressed finish that suits high ceilings and generous windows.

Linings and what they do

A good lining protects the face fabric from strong sun, helps it hang in fuller folds and changes how the curtain behaves in the room.

  • Standard lining suits living rooms and dining rooms where you want the curtain to look substantial without making the room dark.
  • Blackout lining stops light passing through the fabric, which makes a real difference in bedrooms. Be aware that some light can still creep in at the top and sides. If you want a truly dark room, pair your curtains with one of our blackout blinds fitted in the recess behind them.
  • Thermal lining adds an insulating layer that can help reduce heat loss through glass. It’s worth considering for older homes, single-glazed windows and rooms that never quite warm up.

Layering curtains with blinds and voiles

Many of the windows we dress have more than one layer. A blind in the recess handles light and privacy during the day, while curtains outside it add warmth and softness in the evening. If daytime privacy is the priority, a sheer layer from our voiles and nets range can hang behind your main curtains on a double pole or track.

Whichever combination you choose, the hardware matters. Our curtain poles and tracks are fitted alongside your curtains, so the heading and the pole or track are matched from the start.

How it works

  1. Arrange a home visit. Call or WhatsApp 07902 945533, or ask for a quote online. We can come any day of the week.
  2. Measuring, samples and advice. We measure each window, check where the pole or track will sit and bring fabrics for you to compare. The quote is free, with no obligation.
  3. Your curtains are made. Each pair is made to the sizes we took, with the heading and lining you picked.
  4. Hung and checked. We fit the pole or track, hang your curtains and make sure they draw smoothly. Fitting is included in your quote.

Curtains aren’t the right answer for every window. Over a kitchen sink or beside a bath, a blind is usually more practical, and we’ll tell you so. But for living rooms, bedrooms and wide glazed doors, very little makes a room feel as finished. Our team has spent 20 years dressing windows across Birmingham and the West Midlands, and we’re always happy to talk through what would suit your home.

Questions

Made-to-Measure Curtains: common questions

Anything else you'd like to know? Call or WhatsApp us on 07902 945533.

Can you make curtains for a bay window?

Yes. We make the curtains to suit your bay and fit a track shaped to follow it. You can have a pair that draws all the way round, or separate curtains for each section, and we'll help you decide at the home visit.

Can I keep my existing curtain pole?

Often, yes. We'll check it's long enough, secure and suited to the heading you choose. Eyelet curtains need a pole, and wave headings need a track or pole made for them, so the heading can decide it.

What length should my curtains be?

Floor-length curtains look elegant and make a ceiling feel higher. Sill-length curtains are tidy and practical in kitchens and above radiators. We'll measure for whichever you prefer and show you where each would finish.

Are curtains a good idea for patio doors?

Yes, as long as the pole or track runs wide enough for the curtains to stack back clear of the doors. That way they don't get in the way when the doors are open, and you keep as much daylight as possible.

How do I look after made-to-measure curtains?

Care depends on the fabric and lining you choose, so we'll tell you how to look after yours when you order. Regular gentle vacuuming with a soft brush keeps dust from building up between cleans.
