Made-to-measure blinds

Pleated Blinds

Crisp pleats that fold away to a slim stack. Ideal for tilt-and-turn windows, awkward shapes and top-down/bottom-up privacy.

Cream pleated blinds on tilt-and-turn windows
  • Takes up almost no space

Raised, the fabric folds into a slim stack at the top of the window, so you keep nearly all of the glass clear.

  • Moves with the window

Held at the top and the bottom, a pleated blind stays flat against the glass when a window tilts or swings open.

  • Top-down/bottom-up option

Lower the blind from the top while the bottom stays covered, for daylight and privacy at the same time.

  • Fits where others won't

A slim headrail and light fabric suit narrow side lights, shallow recesses and frames too tight for a roller blind.

Pleated blinds are the problem-solvers of the blind world. The fabric is folded into fine, sharp pleats that concertina into a slim stack when raised. That makes them a natural fit for windows with little room above the glass, very shallow frames, or a sash that tilts and turns. Lowered, the pleats soften daylight and give the window a tidy, tailored look.

Like every blind we supply, each pleated blind is made to the exact size of your window. With pleated blinds that precision is the whole point, because they’re so often chosen for windows where a standard blind simply won’t sit right.

Tilt-and-turn windows and glazed doors

Tilt-and-turn windows are common in extensions, flats and newer homes, and they’re awkward to dress. A blind fixed to the wall above gets in the way when the window tilts inwards, and a free-hanging blind swings away from the glass as soon as the sash opens.

A pleated blind gets round this by fixing to the opening part of the window itself. Because it’s held at the top and the bottom, it stays flat against the glass whichever way the window opens. The same approach works on uPVC French doors and back doors with large panes of glass.

On uPVC windows, a Perfect Fit pleated blind goes a step further. Its slim frame clips into the window bead, so nothing is drilled into the frame at all.

Awkward shapes and conservatory side windows

With a slim headrail and very light fabric, pleated blinds can go where other blinds struggle: narrow side lights beside a door, small landing windows, and frames with almost no recess. Some angled and shaped windows can be fitted too. We’ll check each one at your home visit and tell you honestly what will work before you commit to anything.

They’re also well suited to the side windows and doors of conservatories and orangeries. A light-filtering pleated fabric takes the edge off strong sun on a summer afternoon without making the room feel shut off from the garden.

Light and privacy together

A standard pleated blind raises from the bottom, like most blinds. A top-down/bottom-up pleated blind can also be lowered from the top. Cover the lower half of the window and let daylight pour in above. It’s a neat answer for a ground-floor room facing the pavement, or a bedroom that looks straight into the house behind.

Pleated fabrics range from airy, light-filtering weaves to denser dim-out and blackout options. If a fully dark room is the priority, it’s worth comparing them with our blackout blinds, and we’re happy to show you both side by side.

Questions

Pleated Blinds: common questions

Anything else you'd like to know? Call or WhatsApp us on 07902 945533.

Do you fit blinds in conservatories?

Yes, on the side windows and glazed doors of conservatories and orangeries, where pleated blinds are a popular choice. We don't fit blinds to conservatory roofs.

Will a pleated blind darken a bedroom?

It can. A blackout pleated fabric stops light passing through the blind, and fitting it in a Perfect Fit frame helps reduce light around the edges. We'll talk you through the darkest option for your window at the home visit.

What's the difference between pleated and Perfect Fit blinds?

Perfect Fit is a way of fitting rather than a type of fabric. A pleated blind can hang from its own headrail, or sit inside a Perfect Fit frame that clips into a uPVC window bead. We'll suggest the right fitting for each window.

Are pleated blinds hard to keep clean?

Not at all. A light dust with a feather duster or soft brush keeps the pleats crisp. Most small marks lift with a barely damp cloth, though every fabric is a little different, so we'll explain how to look after yours.
