Good blinds make a working space more comfortable and more professional. Screens without glare, meeting rooms that passers-by can’t see into, a reception area that looks smart from the street: these small things make a real difference to how a business feels, for staff and for customers.
The right choice depends on what happens in each room, how much sun it gets and how hard the blinds will be used. This guide is written for smaller commercial premises, such as offices, shops, salons, clinics and studios. If that sounds like your business, our commercial page explains how we work with local businesses.
Start with the problem you’re solving
Most rooms have one main job for their blinds. Work out what it is first, and the right blind usually follows.
- Glare on screens. A common complaint in offices with big windows. Sun bouncing off monitors is distracting and makes screens hard to read.
- Privacy. Ground-floor offices, meeting rooms and treatment rooms need to stop people seeing in, ideally without shutting out all the daylight.
- Sun and heat. South- and west-facing rooms can get uncomfortably warm on sunny afternoons. Blinds keep direct sun off desks and can help a room stay more comfortable.
- Darkening a room. Meeting rooms with projectors or large screens need to go dim when you need them to.
- Appearance. Blinds are seen from outside as well as in. A consistent look across the front of a building gives a good first impression.
The best blinds for offices and business premises
Vertical blinds
Vertical blinds are the classic office blind, and they’re still one of the most practical. The vanes rotate to angle light away from screens while still letting daylight in, and they draw back to one side for a clear view. They suit long runs of windows and tall glazing, and if a vane gets damaged, it can often be swapped on its own.
Good for: open-plan offices, meeting rooms and large windows. Worth knowing: when they’re open, the vanes stack to one side, so think about where the stack will sit.
Roller blinds
Roller blinds give a clean, minimal look and take up very little space when raised. The fabric decides how they perform: light-filtering for reception areas, dim-out to cut screen glare, or blackout for meeting rooms that need to go dark for presentations.
Good for: small offices, reception areas, meeting rooms and treatment rooms. Worth knowing: a roller blind is up, down or somewhere in between, so you can’t angle the light the way you can with vertical or Venetian blinds.
Day and night blinds
Day and night blinds have alternating bands of sheer and solid fabric. Line the sheer bands up for soft, filtered daylight, or offset them for privacy and less glare. They look modern and tidy, which makes them popular for client-facing spaces.
Good for: reception areas, salons, consulting rooms and home offices. Worth knowing: they’re not a blackout option, so they won’t darken a room fully for presentations.
Faux wood Venetian blinds
Faux wood Venetian blinds give precise control by tilting the slats, and they’re moisture-resistant and easy to wipe clean. That makes them a good choice for staff kitchens, washrooms and anywhere that needs regular cleaning. They also bring a warmer, more relaxed look than vertical blinds, which suits private offices and client rooms.
Good for: staff kitchens, washrooms, private offices and client rooms. Worth knowing: slats collect dust, so they need a regular wipe to stay looking smart.

Practical things to think about
Notice when the sun is a problem
Before you choose, pay attention to when each room actually struggles with light. A room that gets glare for an hour first thing may only need a light-filtering roller blind, while a west-facing office that bakes all afternoon needs something that can block much more light. If you can tell us which rooms are worst and at what times of day, we can recommend the right fabric or blind type rather than guessing.
A consistent look from outside
From the street, your windows are part of your shopfront, even if you’re an office on the first floor. Choosing one colour for every window on the same side of the building looks far tidier than a mix, even if you use different blind types inside. White, cream and light greys are safe choices that work with most interiors.
Controls that stand up to daily use
Blinds in shared spaces get used by lots of different people, not all of them gentle. Simple, sturdy controls are best. Every blind we supply meets the UK child-safety standard (BS EN 13120), with cordless and secured-chain options, which is worth thinking about if children ever visit your premises, such as a dental practice or a family-friendly shop.
Cleaning and upkeep
Choose finishes that suit the room. Wipe-clean fabrics and faux wood are easy to keep looking fresh in busy areas, while a regular dust keeps any blind working smoothly. In kitchens and washrooms, avoid materials that can be damaged by steam or splashes, such as real wood.
Rented premises
If you lease your premises, check whether your lease or building management has rules about window coverings or drilling into window frames before you order. For uPVC windows, Perfect Fit blinds clip into the frame with no drilling, which can be a neat solution where fixing into walls isn’t allowed.

Questions
Do you fit blinds for home offices too?
Yes. The same thinking applies at home: notice where the sun falls on your screen at the times you usually work. Vertical blinds, Venetian blinds and dim-out roller blinds all help with glare, and we can recommend the right one at your home visit.
